The answer to the problem of slip injuries on most hard mineral-based floor surfaces, whether natural or man-made. Effective on all unsealed ceramic, terrazzo*, quarry tiles, concrete, slate, granite, marble*, glass, porcelain, etc. This product has been sucessfully used by the trade for many years to render wet, slippery ceramic and similar floor tiles safe. Now available to householders and small businesses in smaller packs for DIY application - comes with comprehensive instructions.

* works on cement-based terrazzo only, will not work on resin-based terrazzo. Natural marble varies in density and if very soft may not be suitable for this treatment.

Mineral Based Surface AntiSlip Treatment is NOT a coating.

The treatment causes a chemical reaction with the surface, creating a semi-permanent "Invisible Tread" on floors which significantly increases the co-efficient of friction and reduces the problem of dangerous wet surfaces, without noticeable effect on surface appearance. The Treatment will last for up to 5 years with one application, depending on volume of foot traffic, and areas can be subsequently re-treated. It may be used indoors and outdoors; the wetter the floor, the more effective the slip-resistance.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

This product is a chemical treatment, the effects of which can only be seen under a microscope. No chemicals remain on the surface after the treatment, but what the treatment does is to alter the profile of the previously smooth-surface in two very subtle ways.

First, the treatment chemical liberates small and measured of the natural silica which will be present in all types of treatable surface (ceramic tile, quarry tile, porcelain tile, natural stone, slate, marble, concrete and even glass). This creates hundreds of thousands of minute indentations the “valleys”) in the previously smooth surface. In wet conditions, these indentations fill with water and the pressure of the foot against them creates mini suction cups, which make the foot adhere to the surface

Secondly, the application of the Treatment Rinse at the end of the treatment period does two things. Not only does it stop the chemical reaction which is liberating the silica, but it also causes some of the liberated silica to be deposited (crystallised out) abovethe former profile level of the smooth surface (the “hills” )These give the surface added friction in both dry and wet conditions.

CAN THIS TREATMENT WEAR AWAY?

Silica is a hard wearing substance but the “hills” will eventually get worn down in the course of time, depending on the volume of foot traffic and type of use. Most treated surfaces can be expected to last at least 3-5 years with correct maintenance. Surfaces can be re-treated if necessary.

CAN I APPLY THIS TREATMENT MYSELF?

Yes, the procedure is quite simple and suitable for DIY application, requiring only handyman skills and no special equipment - very comprehensive instructions are enclosed. The basic procedure is to apply the first chemical to cleaned tiles using a mop or brush and keep the surface wet with this solution for a period typically 20-40 minutes. The second chemical is then applied, following which the floor can be immediately mopped and cleaned. There is no "drying" or "curing" time because nothing is now left behind on the floor surface - it may be immediately used as normal. However if you have any queries at all on your application which aren't answered on this website, or with the product instructions enclosed, we will be pleased to advise - just email or call us.

ARE THESE CHEMICALS DANGEROUS?

The active chemical presents no more hazard than, for example, concentrated domestic bleach. Sensible precautions must be taken when applying, such as the use of rubber gloves, eye protection to guard against splash protection etc. Full safety information is included. Once neutralsed, the solution is chemically inert and may be mopped and flushed away.

WILL THE APPEARANCE OF MY TILES CHANGE?

Some very dark tiles may appear slightly lighter, and very high gloss tiles may appear slightly less glossy after application. We recommend that you perform a test patch in an inconspicuous area first to test acceptability. The product is guaranteed not to affect the structural integrity of the tile, even with repeated re-application. And, there's an added bonus - old grout will be cleaned and look like new again!

MY TILES ARE PORCELAIN - IS THIS PRODUCT SUITABLE?

A special version of the product is available for more delicate porcelain tiles; please make the appropriate product selection below - under the drop-down "Product Grade" box.

IS ANY SPECIAL CLEANING REQUIRED?

The only way ANY anti-slip treatment can work (whether this kind of treatment or with some type of coating) is to make the surface rougher in some way than it was before. Unfortunately this will increase the surface’s ability to hold and retain dirt or grease, and if cleaning is not done frequently enough or ineffective or inappropriate cleaning agents are used, soils can accumulate in the “valleys” which can quickly start to negate the floor’s anti-slip properties. Please visit our Helpful Cleaning Tips for further information.

IS THIS PRODUCT EXPENSIVE, AND HOW MUCH WILL I NEED?
Not at all, it's much cheaper than replacing the problem floor! There are two pack sizes, depending on the area you wish to treat (pricing includes the treatment, neutraliser and VAT)

1 LITRE (Sufficient for approx 9 sq metres) - £58.00
3.78 LITRES (sufficient for approx 35 sq metres) - £199.00
